Nancy J. Pinkin was sworn in as Middlesex County Clerk on January 1, 2021.

Prior to taking on the role of Clerk for Middlesex County, she served four terms as a New Jersey State Assembly Representative, representing Legislative District 18. During her time in the Assembly, Clerk Pinkin served on the Legislative Select Oversight Committee, the Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS and Related Blood-Borne Pathogens, the National Council of State Governments Eastern Regional Conference Energy and Environment Committee, National Council of State Governments Opioid Policy Fellow, the Disparity in State Procurement Study Commission, and the Council of State Governments Healthy States National Task Force.

As an Assemblywoman, Clerk Pinkin was the primary sponsor of laws to curb the use of solitary confinement in correctional facilities and a measure to provide better access to palliative care services for those with terminal illnesses. She worked to provide domestic violence awareness training for municipal court judges and ensure easy access to services for victims of sexual assault on college campuses. Additionally, she advanced measures to expand protections for maternal health and newborn infants and advocated for accountability and funding for lead remediation and other environmental justice issues. She was the Chair of the Assembly Environment & Solid Waste Committee and served on the Assembly Health Committee and the Law & Public Safety Committee. She worked to advance the most progressive environmental agenda in a decade, including wind turbines, solar power, electric vehicles, beach access, updating brownfield regulations, the banning of plastic bags and polystyrene, lead contamination, and numerous other issues.

Clerk Pinkin was a two-term president and member of the planning board of the East Brunswick Township Council and served on the Legislative and Emergency Services Committees of the New Jersey League of Municipalities.

She is the recipient of numerous awards, including New Jersey Hospital Association Legislator of the Year; the first ever American Cancer Society Distinguished Advocacy Award; NJ League of Conservation Voters Emerald Award; NJ Federation of Democratic Women Leadership Award; NJ Democratic State Committee Women Legislators Award; Monmouth Council of Boy Scouts Good Scout Award; NJ League of Municipalities Outstanding Women in Government Award; NJ Primary Care Association Award for significant contributions to Women's Health; a South Asian Community Outreach Leadership and Service Award; Brain Injury Association’s James and Sarah Brady Award for Public Service; the 2019 Sierra Club Award; and the “Congressman Dean A. Gallo Memorial Award for Distinguished Legislative Leadership.”

Clerk Pinkin holds an associate degree from Middlesex County College, a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University, and a master’s degree in Public Administration from New York University. She completed a postgraduate fellowship in Health Policy and Research at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where she served as a Health Policy Advisor to the late Senator Jack Sinagra.

Clerk Pinkin and her husband, Dr. James Salwitz, are the proud parents of two children, Dr. Kimberly Salwitz and Gregory Salwitz, and two grandchildren.
